The Mall Food Court Is Getting a Strange Second Life
The mall food court was basically a tiny city where nobody had to agree on dinner.
A developer is converting an empty suburban mall wing into a food court built around the chaotic variety of the 1980s and 1990s.
The space uses tiny counters, neon menus, shared tables, a photo booth and, inexplicably, a fountain.
Operators argue that the old food court was an early version of the modern mixed-use dining experience.
